Diabetes is a disease characterized by abnormally high levels of blood glucose and inadequate levels of insulin. Glucose is a simple sugar used by all the cells of the body to produce energy and support life.

Humans need a minimum level of glucose in their blood at all times to function and stay alive. Insulin is a peptide hormone naturally secreted by the pancreas to regulate the body's management of glucose.

When a healthy individual begins a meal, the pancreas releases a natural spike of insulin, called the first-phase insulin release, which is critical to the body's overall control of glucose.

Many patients with diabetes lack the first-phase insulin release and must treat themselves with daily meal-time insulin injections to avoid the negative effects of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.

Job Title		Research and Development Analyst I

Job Summary		This entry level position is predominantly laboratory based. Activities include supporting formulation, physicochemical characterization and data entry to database.

Essential Duties		Conducts routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials and finished formulations according to standard operating procedures. Performs chemical and/or biophysical analyses of product to ensure stability. Compiles data for documentation of test procedures that may include chemical and biophysical assays, stability program testing and formulation studies. Calibrates and maintains lab equipment. Participates in the preparation of investigations, summaries and reports. Assist in the development & validation of testing methods. Reviews data obtained for compliance to proposed specifications and reports abnormalities if required. May perform instrument problem solving.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities		Knowledge and lab experience with chemistry, pharmaceutical or material sciences. Instrumentation skills such as HPLC, FTIR and DLS Attention to detail Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Education and Experience		Bachelor of Science degree, 0-3 years experience Experience with formulations or synthetic chemistry a plus
